I haven't always been a Nana...or a mother for that matter. Once (a very longggg time ago) I was a young girl with a fascination for decorating cakes! Of course, I was terrible at it!! I don't actually remember the first time I decorated a cake. I do remember when I was maybe 18 that I made a Lamb cake. You know, the kind where you bake a sheetcake and cut it up and stack it so that it looks like a 3D cake. I remember it was decorated using a Wilton star tip and how my hand ached from making all the stars...maybe I can find a picture of that one and add it to this post....Later, after we started our family I would make birthday cakes for the kids every year. I thought I was 'okay', but as with anything that is worth doing this cake decorating stuff takes lots and lots and lots of practice. It is so much fun though and when you get it right it is extremely satisfying....exhausting, but rewarding!!! I am still learning new things every time I do a cake and cake decorating has advanced at a rapid pace over the last few years. Have you seen some of the cakes that are being made these days? They are incredible! Like works of art!!!!
So anyway, I have decided that I am going to start documenting every cake (okay, most cakes.....well, some cakes, haha) that I make in hopes of helping someone who may be just starting out decorating cakes, whether it be just for fun or if they are trying to start a business. I will try my best to take pictures of the steps as I go through them so that you also have a visual. I don't know about you but I do so much better when I have something to actually look at when I am learning new things.
Who knows....this is a great experiment for me and you never know what tidbits I might share with you as I move through the process of blogging. This is a new chapter for me and if you want, you are welcome to come along for the ride.
